How do I set up staff pay rates?
Setting a base rate or assigning an award classification.

Pay rates are configured on the staff profile by anyone with Payroll Admin or Super Admin permission level.
Two ways to set pay
1. Award-based (recommended) β pick the award and class. Optiq calculates the staff member's base rate, penalties, and allowances automatically from the award. Easier to keep current when the Fair Work Commission updates rates.
2. Flat rate β set a single hourly rate that applies regardless of day or time. Use this for above-award arrangements or salaried staff with no penalty entitlements.
Steps
- Open People β Staff β (the staff member).
- Open the Employment tab and click Edit.
- Pick the employment type (casual / part-time / full-time) β this affects which loadings apply.
- For award-based pay: pick the award and the classification (class). Optiq fills in the rate.
- For flat-rate pay: switch to Custom rate and enter the hourly figure.
- Save. The change applies from the next pay period. To backdate, contact your Super Admin β effective-dated rate changes are an audit-controlled action.
What staff see
The staff member sees their current rate on their own My details β Employment page. They don't see anyone else's rate.
