In Optiq, a class is an award classification β a specific level within an award that defines the staff member's pay rate, allowances, and ordinary hours per week.
For example, the Health Professionals Award has classifications like Radiographer Level 1, Radiographer Level 2, etc. Each class has:
- A base hourly rate (different for full-time vs casual; casual usually carries a 25% loading)
- An ordinary hours requirement (e.g. 38 hours per week)
- Penalty rules for weekends, public holidays, overtime, and on-call
- Allowances the staff member is entitled to (e.g. meal allowance, travel allowance)
Where to find them
Open Settings β Awards, pick an award, then open the Classes tab to see every classification under that award.
Assigning a class to a staff member
On the staff profile, open Employment β Pay info and pick the award + class. Optiq will warn you if their ordinary hours don't match the class requirement.
